Born in Q4-1908 [Newmarket 3b:439] to Mark and Alice BRAND (née DOWNING), of 6 Mineral Cottages, Granby Street, Newmarket. His mother died in 1928 and father re married, to Daisy SCOTT in Newmarket in 1930.

1911 census...Aged 3, he was at 6 Mineral Cottages, Granby Street, Newmarket with his father Mark BRAND [30] born Barrow, cow man on stud; his mother Alice [39] brothers John [7] born Aldeburgh; Jerry [5] and Mark [1]. Archie married Ada Miriam CHAPMAN in Newmarket in Q2-1932. They had a daughter, June. They have not been identified in the 1939 register, but his parents were at Victoria House, Drapery Row, Newmarket with his brother Peter [1-5-1939]. Ada married Frederick D.W.CLARK in 1958.

Archibald and some others were moved to Cassino War Cemetery in February 1945. The original burial was between Cassino and Mignano, at Monte Rotondo (4 NZ M.D.S.) Military Cemetery in grave J.21.
